To all the moms out there, especially my beautiful wife, Kim, and my wonderful mom, both of whom have made my dream of Grey & Gold Cider possible. Today we are launching our 2025 Russet Pet Nat, featuring the dancing horses artwork, painted by my loving and talented mother Migs Baker. Raising three young children, all under the age of five, my mom took an oil painting class one evening a week to help preserve her sanity. This lovely painting came from those classes and hung on the wall in my childhood home. We’re excited to be releasing two new ciders this We’re excited to be releasing two new ciders this weekend. They’ll be available Saturday at the shop and at the Heart’s market on Sunday. And hopefully very soon for online ordering. First, we’ve got our first PetNat Nat of the 2025 harvest. This is co-ferment with Vidal grape skins, very lightly petillant, partly by design and partly because the cider maker was a little late getting in bottle. Lovely tropical notes in the bouquet and palette with a kick of grapefruit on the finish. Some lovely tannic structure from the grape skins and 30% estate-grown bitter sweets in the blend. Up next we have our first Ciderkin. This is a very cool product, a classic old-time response to today’s desire for lower alcohol options, and a great fit with our mission for sustainability. Ciderkin is made by adding water to the pomace from apples that have already been pressed, letting them sit overnight and then doing a second pressing. It’s a labor intensive process for us (thanks Clayton) but is a great way to re-use a product that would otherwise go to waste (or compost). The result is a light, low alcohol cider (2.8% ABV) with a surprisingly full flavour of fresh and stewed apple. Perfect for the holiday entertaining season! We’re excited to be part of this year’s Open Field We’re excited to be part of this year’s Open Fields Farm Tour in the Blue Mountains and Meaford on Saturday, September 27, 10 am to 5 pm.
